Membership Policies

Recruitment Policy

Membership of RAYNET is open to any person, irrespective of race, ethnic or national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, faith or belief, age, disability or personal characteristic.

To be admitted as a member, the person must be:

  • in sympathy with the aims of the organisation
  • able to undertake appropriate training
  • able to carry out regular duties to the standards expected by the organisation

An optional Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check may be carried out by the local Group, which includes a declaration of unspent criminal convictions. Convictions are not necessarily a bar to membership and each application will be considered individually. We recognise in most cases convictions will have little or no bearing on a members' work within RAYNET.

The organisation recognises that disabled members are often able to carry out special and valuable roles within RAYNET. We therefore welcome such members, provided that they are able to undertake training with the Group and that areas can be identified where they feel able to make a contribution to the team.

Members under the age of 18 years

Members under the age of 18 years are subject to strict supervision rules

Members under 18 must be supervised at all times by an adult who is either a family member, or another person for which the family have indicated, in writing, to the Group Controller they are happy for the child to be supervised by.

To avoid any insurance implications whilst on a duty, the supervising adult must also be a member of RAYNET.

The judgement and decision as to the duties carried out by the young person during RAYNET activities rests solely with this adult, including situations where they would be working away from the supervising adult with other Group members or the User Service.

Members under 18 must never be put in situations where they are completely alone.
